Kokua’s corporate beginnings started as the Electronic Protective Coating Services (EPCS) Company in 1988. EPCS had more than 20 years of proven experience providing manufacturing and service support to commercial, industrial, and government customers. The company’s main focus was electronics microencapsulation, personal computer fabrication, and information technology management. EPCS earned its reputation by creating new and innovative processes and concepts that resulted in significant process improvements and cost savings for its customers.
EPCS received its 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business certification in August 2007. In March 2009, the Small Business Administration (SBA) approved the acquisition of a majority interest in EPCS by Eo Na Punawai, an SBA-certified NHO, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. The company’s charter provides a means to educate Native Hawaiian youth pursuing an advanced education in technical fields. Following this acquisition, EPCS began doing business as Kokua Support Services Corp. (Kokua), where we continue to provide the highest level of professional support to customers. Kokua’s strong reputation in the industry is a result of their team’s unique ability to solve complex engineering, program management, logistics, information technology, and administrative problems for clients using a multi-disciplinary approach.
In August 2016, Kokua successfully graduated from the SBA’s 8(a) program. Today, Kokua remains a Small Disadvantage Business (SDB) headquartered in Newport News, VA.
